Work includes platform renewals, replacement of stairs, canopies, and windscreens, installation of artwork, and minimizing the gaps between the train and the platform edge. The closure will shift to the Manhattan-bound platforms in late summer. Starting February 27, the Queens-bound platforms at this station and Woodhaven Boulevard closed. In February 2023, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that this station would temporarily close for renovations as part of a station renewal contract at four stations on the Jamaica Line. It was reported in Newsday on February 20, 1988, that the mezzanines at Elderts Lane, Forest Parkway and 104th Street stations would be torn down. When it was found that people were still getting into the closed mezzanine, the entire mezzanine area was dismantled, leaving the only exit and entrance to the station on the north side (75th Street). In the late 1980s, the Elderts Lane end of the station had a mezzanine area, but it was closed, and had become a haven to drugs and prostitution, so the staircases to the south end of the station were removed. This station opened on under the Brooklyn Union Elevated Railroad, an affiliate of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company. As of February 2023, the Queens-bound platform is temporarily closed. It is served by the Z train during rush hours in the peak direction and by the J train at all other times. The station is located at 75th Street and Jamaica Avenue and is largely within Woodhaven, Queens, with a small portion in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. The 75th Street–Elderts Lane station (formerly 75th Street station and originally Elderts Lane station) is a skip-stop station on the BMT Jamaica Line of the New York City Subway. Stops rush hours in the peak direction only We walked around the Victorian homes in Richmond Hill, the urban streets of Jamaica, Queens, which was originally a Portuguese neighborhood, the historic houses of Bushwick and the remnants of old breweries that are no more, the vibrant Hasidic neighborhood on the south side of Williamsburg along Roebling Street, and finally, almost eight hours later, our tour wrapped up with a short walk along the Lower East Side.Stops all times except rush hours in the peak direction It was a full day of architecture sightings, city musings, and historical background. Another fun fact: long ago, traveling to a cemetery on the weekend for a picnic was a typical middle class outing. The cemetery also has several noted people you can visit, among them Piet Mondrian, Jackie Robinson and Mae West to name a few, plus 235 soldiers of the American Civil War. Off in the distance, from a north facing window on the train, we could see Cypress Hills cemetery. We meandered down the shade dappled steps of the park, making our way back to the Van Siclen Avenue stop where the group reboarded the train and headed east once again.
